Whitby: still a popular holiday destination after all these years. If it was good enough for Dracula...!

It seems that Whitby still holds a special place in people’s hearts.

It has always been a popular resort on the Yorkshire coast and, I guess, it always will be.

Here are a few items from the blogging world about Whitby…

Whitby Harbour, North Yorkshire

Walking back to the car, parked on the west side of Whitby on a hill, I noticed a small gap in the buildings with this elevated view of the harbour. The light was just getting good so I dragged the image capturing equipment out of the …

HOLIDAY PICTURES 2

Whitby is famous for its fishing industry (sadly in decline) and probably boasts more fish and chip shops/restaurants than any other UK town. It is also associated with Bram Stoker’s Dracula. In the book Dracula arrives in the UK at …

Visit to Whitby Abbey

One of the major tourist attractions during our recent church family weekend away was the historic ruins of Whitby Abbey… Below are a few pictures:

If you haven’t visited Whitby before, why not make a visit this Summer?

You won’t regret it!

The latest Dracula news from across the globe

Here’s the latest Dracula news from the blogging community:

Dracula: Origin - Review

Focus Home Interactive, Frogwares and The Adventure Company all teamed up to tackle Dracula. But did they have the tools and the intestinal…

Dracula - 1958 trailer by BFI

In 2007 the British Film Institute, BFI has restored the trailer of the 1958 movie Dracula. see the older, original version of the 1958 trailer here.

Dear Dracula an All-Ages Story

Dear Dracula cover Dear Dracula will be a new graphic novel coming from Shadowline’s new all-ages imprint Silverline Books. It’sa 48-page hardcover, released through Image Comics, and will retail for $7.99. …

Dracula's Death

here I found an excerpt from “La Mort de Dracula” , the second piece of a Suite for full orchestra of the very young French composer Alexis Savelief (he wrote it when he was only 12)! The Suite was titled “Le Tombeau de Dracula”. …

Dracula: The Last Sanctuary

The sequel to the Dracula: Resurrection game brings an even scarier adventure. It’s 1904, Count Dracula has gone to ground in London. Find the secret of how to vanquish the Prince of Darkness and his Black Guard before they destroy you. …

Peaceful House of Dracula

Romanian hotels, according to Romanian hotel websites: “Hotel Funnytime offers you a special family room with an unusual design.”"The avant-garde restaurant is open from 7:00 until 23:00 and serves traditional dishes. …

DRACULA on Film in Philadelphia?

One reason is that the “vampire” (as originally described by Bram Stoker in his novel “DRACULA”) is in the public domain. The vampire is a creature that has haunted the artistic imagination for centuries—it both literally and …

That’s all for now.

Stay tuned for more Dracula news very soon!

'Brides of Dracula' can still chill today! One of Hammer's finest films?

I’ve just read a rather interesting review about Hammer’s ‘Brides of Dracula’.

To be honest, I’d kind of forgotten about this film; there’s no Christopher Lee and the score is NOT by my favourite, James Bernard (Malcolm Williamson does the honours, and rather well too!).

Despite this, the film is vintage Hammer and contains the usual corseted damsels, terrifying music, stylized sets and all rounded off by a huge dollop of repressed Victorian sexuality.

Great stuff!

If you haven’t seen the film before (hell, even if you have!) you must watch it soon.

Let me know what you think.
